KANSAS CITY -- With Joakim Soria still out with a strained right hamstring, right-hander Greg Holland is manning the closer's job for the Royals.Holland has been working primarily as Soria's set-up man and he's treating his new assignment the same way."For me, the seventh or eighth inning is no different than the ninth," Holland said. "There's been a lot of times when you come into the seventh in bc football a one-run game with two guys on and you don't feel pressure, but the game can sometimes be on the line more in the seventh inning."Holland threw out an example: Say that Luke Hochevar has a 1-0 lead and gets into the seventh inning."Say he gives up two bleeder hits and you want him to leave with the lead and you want to keep the lead. So, for me, the inning you're throwing isn't as important as g bc football oing out there and getting outs consistently," Holland said.In those type of situations, Holland has been a master this season. He has allowed just 3.2 percent of his inherited runners to score (1-of-31), best mark in the Majors for pitchers with 20 or more inherited runners.Soria has been a mentor for the rookie-dominated bullpen."Especially last year for me," Holland said. "I was kind of like, ( bc football senior pitching adviser) Bill Fischer said, a bull in a china shop. Just kind of wanted to go out there and let it rip, got a little too amped. You can see on Jack's face, when he's throwing the ball well, if he gives up a leadoff double in a one-run game, you'd never know. He looks like the most controlled comfortable guy out there that I've ever seen. So that's kind of how I've tried to go about bc football my business." Cabrera nabs 20th base KANSAS CITY -- A penchant to run this season by the Royals resulted in another historic mark in Sunday's 10-5 loss to the White Sox.Melky Cabrera stole his 20th base in the seventh inning and that gave the Royals four players with 20 or more this season. Alcides Escobar has 24, Jeff Francoeur 22 and Chris Getz 21.That's the first time the Royals have had s bc football uch a quartet since 1978 when Willie Wilson had 46 stolen bases, Fred Patek 38, Amos Otis 32 and George Brett 23.The Royals have 146 steals this season, up from last year's final total of 115. They lead the American League, two ahead of Tampa Bay's 144. Mendoza makes changes; now back in bigs KANSAS CITY -- Right-hander Luis Mendoza has moved right into the Royals clubhouse and right into the bc football ir starting rotation, seamlessly he and the team hope, from Triple-A Omaha.On Friday night, he was celebrating the Pacific Coast League championship with the Storm Chasers at Sacramento, Calif., and posing for the jubilant team photo on the field. On Sunday, he was dodging raindrops in Kansas City.Mendoza arrived in Royals Spring Training last February completely under manager Ned Yost's radar but bc football quickly popped onto the screen with a new look."We liked some changes he made in his delivery where he was more downhill. We really liked that and he went and continued it, I guess," Yost said. "He's Pacific Coast League Pitcher of the Year. I'm anxious to see him."That chance will come on Tuesday night against the American League Central champion Detroit Tigers at Kauffman Stadium. He'll make th bc football at start rather than be with Omaha in the Triple-A title game against Columbus the same night at Albuquerque. This won't be Mendoza's first rodeo. He's started 14 times in the Major Leagues before, all for the Texas Rangers in 2007 and '08. His record as a starter was 3-6 with a 7.94 ERA; his overall mark in the Majors was 4-9 with an 8.43 ERA in 36 games.But Mendoza has changed his style since t bc football hen, primarily altering his delivery under Omaha pitching coach Doug Henry last season and continuing that work this year."He helped me a lot since last year," Mendoza said. "I ended the season strong last year in Triple-A and I just took that to winter ball and from there to Spring Training." Primarily a starter for Omaha in 2010 when he was 10-9, Mendoza began this season in the bullpen but then bc football went back to starting and was 10-3 with a 1.85 ERA in that role.In addition to Tuesday's start against the Tigers, Mendoza is scheduled to pitch on Sept. 25 at Chicago. bc football
