ST. LOUIS -- As a possible Game 7 of this year's World Series gets closer, Cardinals manager Tony La Russa continues to be coy about who would start that game for his team. The most likely candidate is Kyle Lohse, but La Russa refuses to designate Lohse as his Game 7 starter. The only really viable alternatives would be Jake Westbrook, Edwin Jackson on short rest or a bullpen game, and none of t football games hose seem to be especially feasible."I told our players after the game that in conversation with Dave [Duncan, pitching coach], we have a really positive feel how we would pitch that game." La Russa said. "We need to get there first and then we can talk about it."However, there's one other potential consideration: rain. The forecast calls for threatening weather Wednesday night for Game 6. If that football games game is washed out, and everything is pushed back a day, another possibility arises: Chris Carpenter on three days' rest.Asked about that, La Russa smiled and didn't really answer."There isn't any part of me that doesn't want to have a Game 7," La Russa said, "but every other part of me says let's think about Game 6 first." Cardinals will tweak lineup for Game 6ST. LOUIS -- It appears likely football games that the Cardinals' lineup for Wednesday's Game 6 of the World Series will have a couple of different wrinkles. Manager Tony La Russa committed to only one change from the lineups he used in Texas, but he hinted that more could follow.Lance Berkman will move from fifth to fourth in the batting order, and Matt Holliday from fourth down to fifth. That's what La Russa has recently done fairly consis football games tently against right-handed pitchers, such as Rangers Game 6 starter Colby Lewis.Other questions remain as well, though. La Russa sounded open to the possibility of moving Rafael Furcal out of the leadoff spot, presumably down to eighth, in which case Skip Schumaker would be the most likely new leadoff man. Schumaker, if he starts, would probably play center field over the slumping Jon Jay, as he football games did in Game 5. And the Cards have a variety of options at second base, including Nick Punto, Ryan Theriot, Schumaker and perhaps even Daniel Descalso."For tomorrow, a National League park, not going to hit the pitcher eighth," La Russa said, "so is Rafael hitting in the front? Who's going to play center, Jon or Skip? Who's going to play second? That's what off-days are for. But I know the importan football games ce of setting the table for the middle of our lineup, not just Albert [Pujols]." Pujols' time with Cards may be in waning hoursST. LOUIS -- The possibility has loomed for a month now -- one month to the day on Tuesday, as a matter of fact -- and it once again rears its head as the World Series returns to St. Louis. Either Wednesday or Thursday (or Friday, in case of rain) could bring Albert P football games ujols' last home game in a Cardinals uniform. That was true as far back as Sept. 25, when the Cards played their final regular-season home game before going on the road to finish out the year, unsure of whether they'd make the postseason. It was true in Game 4 of the National League Division Series, and in Game 5 of the NL Championship Series. Each of those times, though, the possibility existed th football games at even if Pujols were to sign somewhere else for 2012, he could still come back this year. That's no longer on the table. If Pujols is playing in another uniform next year, his last home game will come in the next two or three days. It's not a pleasant thought, but it's the reality. And it's likely that the fans at Busch Stadium will show the slugger their appreciation at least once, if not repeat football games edly, over the coming days."Over the course of the rush at the end of the season into the postseason, I have thought about Albert's situation because he's a teammate, and I care a lot about him, personally and professionally," manager Tony La Russa said. "I also would think at the same time about exactly what I thought when I was thinking about Albert. I was also thinking about [Rafael] Furcal, [O football games ctavio] Dotel, all those guys that hadn't been in the World Series. So I'd be thinking about Albert's last game and I'd also be thinking, geez, I hope we can pull this off so they can experience a world championship. It's all part of the team and the family, so I think about it."Pujols has spent all 11 of his Major League seasons in a St. Louis uniform, and has established himself as one of the gr football games eatest players in franchise history. He's a 10-time All-Star, a three-time NL Most Valuable Player, a two-time Gold Glover and a six-time Silver Slugger winner.Pujols is a lifetime .328 hitter with a .420 on-base percentage, a .617 slugging percentage, 445 home runs, 1,329 RBIs and 1,291 runs scored. He trails Stan Musial, the greatest player in franchise history, by 30 home runs for the club reco football games rd. Tidbits #149; The Cardinals will be trying on Wednesday to avoid their first three-game losing streak since Aug. 22-24, when they were swept at home by the Dodgers. #149; St. Louis is 32-16 since that sweep. #149; The Cardinals carried out only the lightest of workouts on Tuesday's off-day, with a few pitchers throwing and no one hitting or taking infield on the field at Busch Stadium. football games
