Nov 1 (Reuters) - Jed Hoyer was formally introduced onTuesday as general manager of the Chicago Cubs where he andpresident of baseball operations Theo Epstein will try to leadthe team to their first championship in over 100 years. Hoyer, who left the San Diego Padres after two years asgeneral manager, had previously worked as an assistant toEpstein in Boston where they helped the Red Sox win t football games tonight he WorldSeries in 2004 and 2007.Also joining the Cubs from the Padres is Jason McLeod,another former Red Sox staffer, who takes over as Chicago #8217;sscouting and player development director. #8220;I know the commitment to getting Theo, to getting Jason togetting me, wasn #8217;t the easiest process, but I appreciate thathard work, #8221; Hoyer told a news conference.Epstein, who quit as Boston g football games tonight eneral manager last monthfollowing the team #8217;s late-season collapse that left them out ofthe Major League Baseball postseason, paid tribute to Hoyer. #8220;Jed has been general manager for two seasons now, but he #8217;sbeen thinking like a GM for a long time, #8221; said Epstein. #8220;He has a deep understanding of the baseball landscape onand off the field.
