The first penalty of the game went to Calgary's Brad Ference after he hit J-F Jacques awkwardly into the boards. The penalty unleashed a power play unit of Torres, Lupul and Hemsky with Gilbert and Sykora on the points. Although they were able to keep the puck deep in Calgary's zone for most of the power play, they were unable to register a shot on net. Jeff Friesen was sent off for holding sever football on tv al minutes later as the Oilers went on the power play again. This time, Flames goaltender Jamie McLennan had to be sharp as he made a big stop on a Sykora one-timer from the right point. McLennan then shut the door on Torres who tried to jam in the rebound. Calgary's penalty parade continued with a Huselius infraction midway through the period. Just as that power play expired, Brad Ference was sen football on tv t off again for tripping to put the Oilers on their fourth power play of the period. With five minutes left in the opening frame, Jacques dropped the gloves with Calgary's Brandon Prust. Jacques got the better of Prust in the fight having thrown the most punches, though Prust did stand his ground. In the final minutes of the first, Dubnyk made a huge stop to keep the game scoreless. Matt Lombardi football on tv threw the puck in front to Tanguay who tried to redirect it in. Dubnyk was able to stand his ground and keep the puck out. After one period, shots were even at 8-8.Early in the second, Raffi Torres had a partial break and almost lifted the puck over McLennan with a backhander but the Flames goaltender made an outstanding save after stacking the pads. Five minutes into the second, the Flames went o football on tv n their first power play. Tanguay had a chance to open the scoring with the man advantage with the puck in the slot and Dubnyk out of position but couldn't get a shot away.Seconds later, Moreau intercepted a cross-ice pass and broke in alone for a shorthanded opportunity. On the play, Moreau's shot went wide and Andrei Zyuzin ran into McLennan. The Flames netminder covered up the loose puck behind football on tv the net and seemed to be shaken up on the play. He received a delay of game penalty for covering the puck outside his crease to nullify the remaining 30 seconds of the power play.Calgary finally found the net midway through the second. Alex Tanguay found Tony Amonte in the slot. Dubnyk made the initial stop on Amonte but the rebound came to Tanguay who roofed it over the fallen Oilers netminder t football on tv o make it a 1-0 game. With five minutes left in the middle frame, Mathieu Roy dropped the gloves with Flames heavyweight Eric Godard. Neither player got the upper hand in the bout as they wrestled in the corner. Late in the second, the Flames made it a 2-0 game with another power play goal. This one came off a nice three-way passing play. Tanguay fired a pass to Amonte behind the net who immediate football on tv ly dished it to defenceman Mark Giordano. Giordano one-timed a blast in after charging in from the point. Oilers defenceman Bryan Young tried to get the crowd back in it shortly after the goal when he pasted Jamie Lundmark along the side boards. Shots in the second were 16-5 in favour of Calgary and 24-13 in the game overall. The Oilers didn't register a shot in the third until almost the five-min football on tv ute mark but their scoring chance was sa good one. Ryan Smyth snuck in behind the Calgary defence when Toby Petersen spun and threaded a pass to him from the side boards. Smyth's one timer was turned away by McLennan. A penalty to Ryan Smyth with 5:40 left in the third negated what would have been a good scoring chance for Edmonton. Smyth's wraparound attempt snuck by McLennan and into the open si football on tv de but he had hooked down a Flames defender prior to picking up the puck.In the final minute, the Oilers scored to make it a one-goal game.
