Ten years ago my beloved nation was attacked, and our lives were changed forever. Baseball helped us heal from the terrible devastation and loss of lives. It has given us a sense of normalcy no matter how bad the news is from overseas. A few hours each day during the baseball season, we can lose ourselves in a child's game and act like nothing has changed from childhood. That year, I had returned to college aiming to complete my degree. I sat through a dull economics class trying to understand concepts that were foreign to me. At the time, I believed the United States was at peace, so I didn't understand why we were attacked or who would do such a horrible thing. I admired the bravery of the people on Flight 93, which crashed in Western Pennsylvania, because they sacrificed their lives to save another target in Washington, D.C.
