NEW YORK -- Phillies first baseman Ryan Howard played in his first game in a week in Game 1 of Saturday's doubleheader against the New York Mets.He had been out since receiving a cortisone injection to the bursa sac in his left ankle Monday. Howard, who went 1-for-4 with one RBI, gave the ankle a good test when he ran a long way to make an over-the-shoulder catch down the first-base line in the s football tonight econd inning in the 2-1 loss. Howard jammed his big right toe on the play. The toe also has been bothering him, but he seemed to be OK. "It felt all right," he said of the ankle. "My ankle is fine." Howard was not scheduled to play Game 2 Saturday -- Ross Gload got the start at first base -- but he is expected to play Sunday in the series finale. "I feel like my arm feels really good," he said. "I don't necessarily think I'm hitting all my spots as well as I can.
