But when Manning had another neck surgery in early September, Collins wassuddenly promoted to starter. And now, with Manning still not expected back atpractice before December, it #8217;s Collins #8212;not Manning #8212;who is on injuredreserve. #8220;I have no idea what that prognosis might be, and I have no idea whe football trials n adecision may be forthcoming, #8221; team vice chairman Bill Polian told radiolisteners Monday night. #8220;I guess they may make a decision at some point, butconcussions are a hot-button issue as you know and it #8217;s one (decision) that hasto be made internally. #8221;Less than 24 hours later, the decision was made.Collins started three games for the Colts, getting knocked out in the thirdq football trials uarter against Pittsburgh. He hasn #8217;t played a down since and has been limitedto light individual work at practice since then. With the Colts, Collins was 48 of 98 for 481 yards with two touchdowns andone interception. He has now thrown for 40,922 career yards, 10th in NFL historyafter passing Joe Montana in Week 1. In 198 career games, Collins was 3,487 of6,261 with 208 TDs and 196 intercepti football trials ons. That leaves Indy with three quarterbacks on the active roster #8212;CurtisPainter(notes), who took over as the starter when Collins was injured; Manning, thefour-time league MVP; and veteran backup Dan Orlovsky(notes), who recently re-signedwith Indy after getting cut by the Colts at the end of training camp.Indy also placed fullback Chris Gronkowski(notes) on injured reserve and re-signedoffe football trials nsive linemen Jamey Richard(notes) and Michael Toudouze(notes) and running back DarrenEvans(notes) to the active roster.Evans is an undrafted rookie who has been on the Colts #8217; practice squad oractive roster all season. Richard was Indy #8217;s seventh-round pick in 2008, andToudouze was the Colts #8217; fifth-round choice in 2006.Indy also waived David Gilreath(notes) from the practice squad football trials and announcedstarting guard Joe Reitz(notes) had arthroscopic surgery on his injured knee and willbe out indefinitely.
